Testing and Assessment
Psychological testing is a field characterized by the use of samples of behavior in order to assess psychological construct(s), such as cognitive, and emotional functioning, about a given individual.
Psychological assessment is the comprehensive assessment of the individual by integrating information from:
- tests of normal and abnormal personality
- tests of intelligence
- tests of achievement
- tests of memory
- tests of interests or attitudes
- information from personal interviews - personal, occupational, or medical history
- Collateral information (parents, spouses, teachers, or previous therapists or physicians)
Reasons for psychological assessment:
- Diagnostic clarification
- To assess a particular area of functioning or disability (school or work)
- To help select type of treatment or to assess treatment outcomes
- To help courts decide issues such as child custody or competency to stand trial
- To help assess job applicants or employees and provide career development counseling or training
Dr. Segota has over 10 years of experience in the area of psychological testing and assessment. Typical assessment can be conducted in one session or over several sessions. The length of testing depends on the purpose of the evaluation and the availability of those involved in the assessment. Fees vary depending on the type of assessment, however insurance may reimburse part of the assessment fees.
